January 2020 Update

Welcome to the Ohio Materials Marketplace January update

Welcome to the new year. We would like to thank our members for recommending the marketplace to others. Nearly 20% of our new members indicate that they were referred to the marketplace by other businesses and organizations. With the holidays behind us, now might be a good time to review your material wastes and byproducts, and your material needs, then utilize the marketplace to find reuse and recycling solutions. We look forward to another year of active support for the circular economy.

As we work to improve your marketplace experience, we invite you to provide feedback on the Ohio materials marketplace. Please send any comments or suggestions  to materials.marketplace@epa.ohio.gov. Thank you.

Here are a few marketplace highlights:

  • We added 15 new members in the months of December and January.

  • 1013 individual members are now in the marketplace.

  • 24 material listings were created and/or updated.

  • Over 3.7 million pounds diverted from the landfill with over $222,000 in savings to members

20 Gallon Fiber Drums

NEW NEVER USED fiberboard 20 gallon open head drums

Wooden Spools
Wooden spools (treated wood) originally for shipping/storage of electrical conductor (wire). Multiple sizes ranging from small (47" or less), medium (47"-59"), large (60"-67"), and extra large (67"+). In good condition but there is no current use for them once conductor has been removed.

Rock Totes

Rock Totes of various sizes, empty but not clean. 26 fit on a 53' van trailer, roughly 10,000 pounds. There is enough for 8 truckloads.

Previously contained acids, caustics and other chemicals.

Materials Wanted in the Marketplace:

5 Gallon Buckets

Seeking approximately fifty (50) five gallon buckets, preferably with lids, to be used for compost collection. Buckets should be reasonably clean (no hardened paint or hazardous residue). Seeking on going transaction opportunities for buckets.

How to create the best posting:

  • Determine if you are looking to receive a material or get rid of one

  • Select the applicable category of the material (is it wood, metal, etc.)

  • Upload 1 or more images of the material you have or the material you are looking for

  • Include the amount of the material you are looking for or getting rid of

  • Provide an in-depth description on your posting

    • Add the size of your material (ex. Hardwood crates that are 3’x3’)

    • Specify if this is a onetime generation or reoccurring (same for looking for a material)

    • If posting containers and/or drums, specify if they have been washed or if they will need to be washed

    • Be as specific as you can be
